The NBA, or National Basketball Association, is a professional basketball league in North America composed of 30 teams. It is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada and is widely regarded as the premier men’s professional basketball league in the world. The NBA was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, originally as the Basketball Association of America (BAA), before merging with the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1949 to become the NBA. The league operates on a structure of regular season games followed by playoffs, culminating in the NBA Finals, where the conference champions compete for the championship title. The NBA is known for its high level of athleticism, skill, and entertainment, featuring some of the greatest basketball players in history.
